A Guide to Collagen Increase and Collagen Stimulant For Younger-Looking Skin

Let's face it...

If you were entirely happy with your skin, you wouldn't be interested in collagen increase or a collagen stimulant.

Many of us understand that collagen is so essential to healthy skin, and that losing collagen is one of the main reasons for aging skin, dryness, discolored spots and wrinkles. And we've learned that we do tend to have lower collagen levels as we get older.

That's why it's so easy to get misled about collagen increase. If we do a web search on collagen, we find ourselves swimming in an ocean of claims for products that contain "extra collagen" and "ultra-pure collagen" to rub into your skin.

The way I see it, that's really a claim that the collagen in these products will renew your own collagen levels. But that claim is a hoax.

If you do some research -- or if you happen to know a dermatologist, just ask -- you will get to the truth. And the truth is, collagen is too large and complicated a molecule to penetrate the skin. It can't be absorbed through the skin, so if you rub collagen on, all that can happen is -- it lies on your skin till you either rub it off or wash it off!

So please, if you see collagen on the label of a skin care lotion or cream, keep in mind that it's useless as an ingredient in that product, and be skeptical about what other useless stuff might be in that product.

I've found in my own research that you can find a skin care cream that's a collagen stimulant -- it stimulates your own skin to naturally produce higher levels of collagen. And this is the only effective way to lasting collagen increase. So I use only products that stimulate my skin to rebuild my collagen levels to the way they were years ago.

The best of these ingredients are not yet available in the big names in skin care products. On my website, I name those ingredients and give you details about collagen stimulant products that really do lead to collagen increase.

The Truth About a Collagen Mask and Collagen Gel Remedy

You can find hundreds of places to buy a collagen mask, and a probably even more that will gladly sell you a collagen gel remedy. Many of them contain collagen, and claim this will replenish the collagen in your skin.

That's impossible.

Collagen applied in a mask or gel remedy is useless to your skin. The reason is simple: collagen is too large a molecule to penetrate the skin.

Applied to the skin as a mask or gel, the collagen will just remain there till you wash it off.

At best, collagen is a wasted ingredient in a mask, gel, or anything applied topically to your skin. At worst, promising to apply collagen to your skin and replenish your collagen that way is deceptive advertising. And this deception is very common.

Your body must rebuild its own collagen naturally. Any effective mask or gel remedy must contain ingredients that stimulate the body do just that.

Good news: There are highly effective ingredients available that do stimulate growth of collagen in the skin.

A mask applied to the skin serves one of two purposes: it's a deep cleanser or a deep moisturizer. Collagen can't be absorbed from a collagen mask applied to the skin. That's why you won't find any collagen mask on my website.

However, you'll be directed toward two fine skin masks which do a great job, one a deep cleanser, the other a deep moisturizer. And you'll find several products whose ingredients make them top-quality collagen cream remedies, and an eye gel that qualifies as an effective collagen gel remedy.

Tips for Choosing the Best Collagen

Collagen makes up around 75% of the skin and is responsible for a healthy youthful look. It is a natural protein which gives structure, firmness and support to our bodies; not just the skin. It is the primary connective tissue of our bodies making up about 25% of muscle tissue. Collagen plumps the skin and prevents wrinkling. Collagen forms much of our cartilage in our joints and muscles. It has been called the glue that holds our bodies together.

Unfortunately, as we get older collagen depletes and we may begin to notice our skin not looking quite so young anymore and our joints not as mobile, perhaps getting a bit stiff at times. The depletion of collagen begins at around 25 years of age as we begin to produce less collagen ourselves and as we further age the depletion of collagen accelerates.

Introducing collagen to our bodies is one way of attempting to slow down or even reverse this aging process. Some turn to facial injections of collagen to prevent wrinkles. Bovine collagen is usually used for this. It can plump the skin for a few months but is eventually metabolized by our bodies and so the procedure needs to be repeated. If the procedure is not done well the patient can end up with a rather bloated or distorted face. I am sure we can all think of a few examples.

A much less intrusive form of skincare is collagen supplements. Collagen supplements not only help the anti wrinkling of our skin but also help our joints. But you should choose wisely. You may not always be getting the type or quality of collagen that you think you are.

Points to Consider in choosing a Collagen Supplement
There are two main points to consider when choosing a collagen supplement.

1. How Pure is the Collagen?

There are two main sources of Collagen, Bovine derived collagen and Marine derived collagen. Marine derived collagen is up to 60% purer than Bovine collagen. It is naturally more expensive than the cheaper alternative but probably worth the extra expense. High end cosmetics do not include bovine collagen for that reason but it still may be found in cheaper brands.

2. What are you taking the Collagen for?

Type 2 collagen is good for the joints so if that is your primary concern that's what to look for. However, it has no effect on the skin. The skin requires types 3 and type 7 collagen so for anti wrinkling collagen supplements make sure it contains those types.

There are no less than 28 types of collagen in all. Nowadays it is possible to buy collagen supplements which are blended to include type 2 for the joints but also type 3 collagen and type 4 collagen for a healthy rejuvenated skin. The best of both worlds. But again, look for a pure marine blend of collagen too so as to ensure that overall you are selecting a super collagen.
